Reaching well beyond my grasp

I am here because I have been inspired. The Bloodbowl community has created some amazing customised teams and I have decided I'd like to try building my own team.

I have never done this before, my painting skills are mediocre at best and my modelling skills....well non existent. This is in all likelihood a doomed journey. But I hope it gives others of my skill level and ambition the courage to try.

This is my first attempt at blogging, so some things I feel you should know.
The good blogs out there post on a weekly basis, yeah... this isn't going to be one of those good blogs.
Also I take terrible photos. Really. You have been warned.

UPDATE: I have added a Lessons Learnt page. Here I note little tips I learn as I go along. A summary of things that may help others who decide to give kit bashing a go.

Lessons Learnt.

As this is a Blog of my foray into kit bashing a blood bowl team together I thought I would list everything I have learnt/ am learning along the way. Probably in no discernible order then in which these nuggets of wisdom came to me.

  • Don't give up, things will go wrong, it's okay when it does, keep trying, keep improving.
  • Have a strong visual picture in your head of how you want the model to look. Think about pose, and how it will look, static, dynamic etc.
  • Don't let the kits you are working with dictate how the model will end up, i.e. if you want your model to be breathing fire, then don't let your available piece stop you from doing it.
  • Blu-tack the model together to see what it looks like before getting the glue out.
  • Don't throw bits you cut off away. You never know when that throw away piece will become the perfect piece.
  • Greenstuff putty - Start small, really small and add to it. Build up to the final thing you are modelling rather then take away putty to get to the shape.

Fingerprints get everywhere in putty, use sculpting tools.
  • Using putty as a filler to smooth out surfaces or hide small joints is really hard, try other methods first such as PVC glue mixed with water or liquid green stuff.
  • Look at the plastic kits/ sprues you have and think about if you can use them in a different way. Rather then try to make something from scratch reuse what you have in an unorthodox way. Maybe that staff could be that start of a pogo stick; maybe that rocket funnel can be a blunderbuss; maybe that shield could be a chest armour piece etc.
